Carried
WHEREAS the portion of Elgin Mills Rd from Warden to 9th Line contains several narrow sections with minimal shoulders and contains several rises and dips in the roadway. WHEREAS these sections create areas where road users are blind to one another and are forced to share the minimal existing road width. WHEREAS there have been collisions between motor vehicles and cyclists along this road in the past, including the fatality of a cyclist in June 2018. AND CPAC RECOMMENDS that the City of Markham and/or York Region improve the safety for road users along this portion of Elgin Mills Rd. At the very least, it is suggested that the paved shoulder be widened as has been done to other regional roads in Markham (an example being McCowan between Elgin Mills and Stouffville Road).
